If they don't earn enough before their careers end then it is difficult for them to make a living on be coaches, commentators and writing columns in newspapers - the options for which are again very little. I don't blame them much. Who cares about Kirmani or Binny now even though they were part of 1983 world cup. Only a few players who have the required Public relations skills remain in public eye. Others simply are forgotten and have to make their living working in govt offices etc. Players have short careers these days. The game is increasingly consumer (advertising) led and night games seem a natural progression (under unnatural light!). It is interesting that in soccer there is already less importance on the international game and it is possible that cricket might have to follow suit.
